usb 2.0 cam/x-ray scanner cannot capture

Post by radu.pop »

Hello,

I have a cheap usb 2.0 x-ray scanner (which is in fact a still cam enclosed within a box, with an opening at the bottom when a dental x-ray can be inserted). It gets detected by the guest os (windows xp pro, sp2), but I cannot capture from it. All I can capture is a black rectangle. I read about that problem in some other posts and bug reports arround here, but that aws for old virtualbox versions. I have the latest, 3.0.2.
If you have any idea how I can overcome this inconvenience, please throw me a hand.

scanner/camera details as read by running 'lsusb' from the console are:
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 0c45:6270 Microdia PC Camera (SN9C201 + MI0360/MT9V011 or MI0360SOC/MT9V111) U-CAM PC Camera NE878, Whitcom WHC017, ...

Thanks, in anticipation,
Radu

Radu,

Have you installed the guest additions in Windows?
If so did you boot the Windows guest in safe mode to install them?
The DirectX files that VBox uses can only be installed in safe mode because Windows see these files as protected and will replace them if you install the VBox files in standard mode.
I can not promise that this will work but it may be all you need to do.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Guest additions were installed for the guest OS. I have uninstalled them, then reinstalled in safe mode as per your instructions, but to no avail. I'll just rest for a while :)

Thanks.
