Upgrading from 2.2.4 to 3.0.X - Disables 'Extras' Visual FXs

Hi,
I'm running VirtualBox (VBox) on a Host Mac OS X (10.5.7) and a Guest Ubuntu 9.04 (64 bit). On VBox 2.2.4, my Visual Effects on Ubuntu run fine with 'Extras' selected. But when I upgrade VBox to either 3.0 or 3.0.2, no matter what I do my Ubuntu Virtual Machine is no longer able to turn on 'Extras' for Visual Effects. I do the exact same steps that I used to enable 'Extras' on VBox 2.2.4, on the new VBox 3.0.2 and still no joy...
Because of this I had to downgrade to 2.2.4 where 'Extras' does work like advertised. What is this new version (3.0 & 3.0.2) of VBox doing that is no longer allowing Ubuntu to enable 'Extras' on my white Macbook 2.4? Something that VBox 2.2.4 handles very well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
