failed to attach usb device

hello everyone im new, and i have virtual box installed on vista 64bit with a windows xp 32bit guest os and am trying to get my joystick working in vb but when i try to i get this error message

does anyone know why im getting this and how i can fix it? any help or advice would be awesome

Seems to be a problem many folks have on Windows hosts.

I ran into it, too.

I was then ok after:

1. installing the device drivers on the host, so that the host can properly connect the device on plugging in,

2. when you then connect the device in the guest via the VB manager, the host detects another device, VirtualboxUSB. Let the host install via "automatic install", this usually goes fine.

3. Then reboot the host!

Then it should work out, at least it did for me.

well i managed to fix it, by unplugging it but not fully as in pull it out of the usb port enough to where its still in but enough to where it gets disconnected and then i plugged it in and as soon as i did i clicked on it on vb and the guest os found it and installed it, now when i start the guest os it works fine
