About network on VB with vista host.

Post by Filip93 »

Alright so I tried to set up a virtual box today, however I can't connect to the internet on it. I am using a LAN connection to my modem from my host computer. I am pretty sure I have the right settings but my Virtual box doesn't seem to have any network drivers installed or something like that... or could the problem be that I am hosting it on a Vista computer? Anyway here's a screenshot of how it looks when I'm inside my virtual box. http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/856/wtfwhe.png
as you can see down in the right corner there is no network icon...
Maybe someone can see what the problem is?

There will not be an icon until you have a network connected.
Please post all of the network settings in the guest settings here.

Can you open a command window in the guest and type ipconfig/all and post the results here.
Also did you open your network section on the guest to see if it installed the adapter?
Since you are using NAT the network should have been setup automatically.

If you right click on my network places in the guest and then left click on properties you should a network adapter installed there. Probably call local connection.
See if it is there. If not then you can try to install one by using the network wizard.

Alright I did what you said before with typing the ipconfig/all in a command window. For some reason I can't take a SS atm but anyway pretty much nothing happened. All it said was "Windows IP Configuration" Then it just went back to the normal C:\ Docume~1\Filip\Desktop> _

I went to "Network connections" aswell, there's nothing in there.

And I wanna say thank you for having patience with me and helping me this far.

OK for one reason or another there is no network installed on the guest.

Close down the guest and the VBox program and right click on the VBox install the left click on run as admin. Select repair when it asks and then reboot the host. Try setting up the guest again and then see if the network will appear.

Late here so it will be tomorrow before I can get back to you about this.
