export appliance to. OVF strips windows product key
I was wondering if there was a way to keep the product key attached to the exported appliance so that when I imported it back into a different virtual box on another machine the product key was still there. I realize this may be a license issue but I do not use the product key on anything but the one virtual image installed in one place.

I don't think it has so much to do with exporting and importing as it does with seeing other hardware or hardware changes.
But, the UUID is one thing that gets changed when you export the appliance. That could be what is causing this and Windows is very clear on the fact that any major change and you must register again which reinforces your statement that trying to work around that could lead to a license issue.
