Mouse and keyboard dead - vhd image from VPC

Post by Falle »

Hello everyone,

I have a working Windows XP guest in MS Virtual PC at work(XP host).
When i moved this image home where i have Vista the MS VPC runs the guest VERRY slowly.
So i installed virtualbox since it supports harddrive imagefiles from VPC and hoped that it would do the job faster.

The good news is that the guest starts up many times faster in Virtualbox than in VPC on Vista.

Now to the bad news...

I cannot log in. Keyboard and mouse dont work at all.

I have removed the VPC tools and installed Virtualbox tools but still nothing.

All ideas welcome on how to debug this problem.

I have done this a lot by removing the additions from the guest before copying the file and no problem.
Were you using a USB keyboard and mouse and is it the same on the other system (USB/PS2)?
Try unplugging the keyboard once the guest boots and plug it back in to see if Windows will detect the change.
Also make sure that you have not assigned a filter in the USB section of the guest for the keyboard and mouse.

And have some patience when the VM is booted, and you don't have keyboard and mouse yet. It's installing the drivers in the background. It can take up to 5 minutes, maybe longer, before it's working.
