Is Multiprocessor (SMP) slower on XP?

Post by ToddAndMargo »

Hi All,

host: Cent OS 5.3; guest XP-Prop-SP3; VBox 3.0.2; CPU Intel Xeon 5130 (Xeon equivalent of a Core2duo)

I just configured several of my VM's for Multiprocessors (2) . Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 RC seemed to take to it like a duck to water. But XP-Pro-SP2/3 seems to really drag, unless I tell it it only has one processor.

Is it just me or is XP slower with two processors under VBox 3.0.2? Anyone know of a bug report on this?

And, does anyone know of a work around?

Many thanks,
-T

Does it have the SMP kernel installed?

It (XP) has the following installed: ACPI Multiprocessor Kernel. Both processors show up in the Task Manager. Or only one, if I tell it it only has one processor in the VBox console. It runs much faster on only one. :'(
