I was trying to put Ubuntu's .iso file on a disk (DVD + R) but this came up--
Anyone got any ideas why?

Try nero.
If you have the iso image of the ubuntu cd on your hard drive it will burn it for you. I have better luck with cd-r and dvd-r for iso images though.
