Is there any performance diff between VDIs and VMDK

Is there any performance diff between VDIs and VMDK
In 3.0.2 does it make sense to migrate my vmdk to vdi, will I get a performance boost?

I do not see any difference in running the VDI or VMDK as far as performance is concerned.
