I have a Vista x64 Host and an Ubuntu Guest.

From my host I would like to access my Ubuntu Guest via its IP address. From my Ubuntu Guest I would like to access my Vista Host and the Internet.

Theoretically, I should be able to just enable "Bridged Adapter" networking for my adapter and all should be well.

But its not, the guest refuses to get an ipv4 address from my dhcp server and if assigned manually nothing routes.

Has anyone managed to get this working, if so how?

I managed to work around this,

Instead of going for bridged I created two additional adapters, one on NAT and one on Host only, it seems to be working fine now, my guest sees all 3 adapters and all of them are working fine.

The weird thing is that if I disable the NAT and Host adapters the Bridged adapter just stops working.

Using bridged networking with static IP, not DHCP

Guest os, (windows 7 Ultimate, Windows XP, Linux Enterprise 4.5, using static ip in ipv4 too, same in 3 guest oses.

but in every os, I have to choose in virtualbox network settings
adapter type : my adapter
attached to : Bridge
Name: MAC Bridge Miniport.

obviously i cannot use the guest oses at the same time, but it is useful for me.
