Hey, I'm trying to upgrade my Virtualbox from 2.1.4 to 3.0.2. If I understood correctly all I had to do was make sure my dkpg (or was it dpkg?) was current, which it is. And click on the package installer. When I click on the package installer though I get an error message like this:

Error: Conflicts with the installed package 'virtualbox-ose'.

Someone on X chat IRC told me to reinstall but I would rather not lose my guest OS, I won't be surprised if it stops letting me re-activate it via phone any re-format now....

What do I need to do to get the most recent V-box release and retain the current guest OS?

On an unrelated note, in 2.1.4 I was trying to WineD3D and it was missing 2 of the .dll files, not sure which two they were besides that one was .8 and the other .9, is that typical and will it mess with me getting DX8 on 3.0.2? I apologize if I have murdered multiple acronyms, i've been staring at them for a few hours now and they are starting to jumble up on me lol.

It appears that you are trying to install the PUEL version but you have the OSE version installed already. These can not reside on the same computer. You will need to remove the OSE version before you can install the PUEL version but this should not interfere with the virtual machine. All of the settings are stored in the virtualbox.xml file and in the machine folder <name of machine>.
Backup these files/folders and then uninstall/install and it should all be picked up by VBox. Just be sure that you have a backup of the *.xml described above and the VDI file that is the actual OS file.
