Greetings all, please accept my apologies if this topic was raised in the past but i failed to locate a posting that dealt with it.
Once I installed vbox, the mobile internet dongle (Voda phone 3G Huaweik3520) that i use in conjunction with a VISTA OS has failed badly! for some reason or the other is just would not connect to the voda phone network!
I believe it is to do with the vbox internet adapter messing with the settings but even after disabing the vbox adapter, i could not get a connection!! tried changing the tcp/ip settings but still failed to connect!
once i uninstalled vbox and reinstalled the modem (by the way i connect directly through a usb port and do not use a router!), the internet was up and running! but i need to use vbox. can anyone shed some light on this problem please?
thanks

Try (re)installing the usb software after VBox is fully installed.

After you've install VB, open the properties of the connection for your internet. In there, look for the VBoxNetFlt system. It's used for Bridged Networking, something that won't work with dial-up connections like your 3g connection. Once it's disabled, you should have a working connection again. Another thing you can do is install VB without the support for bridged networking.

Thank you guys for your feedback, if implementing the resolution above, i would still be able to access the internet using the guest OS's ? my understanding is that the virtual adapter has to be bridged to the physical adapter in order for it to access the net...?
I thank you again for taking the time to reply and wish you a great day.

Disabling Bridged Networking during install will result in being unable to select any interface for direct access, like your physical LAN adapter for making the VM a part of the network. Disabling the function in the properties of the NIC itself will only result in not being able to select that NIC for bridged mode. All other networking options will keep working. Bridged is something you can't even use with your 3g connection, you MUST use NAT to get internet on the Guest. This is because you get only one IP address on the connection, so either the Host or Guest has it.

try installing without the host network adapter
You can still use Bridged and NAT.
I found the host network adapter was killing my mobile broadband connection
All works ok after I uninstalled the host network
I don't know if you need to use the host network
