GPU identification in Linux Guests.

Post by yaromir »

Hello, everyone.
VirtualBox is the best virtualization solution i have ever experienced. But one problem spoils this experience: Debian Lenny amd64 guest , running in VirtualBox 3.0.2 on windows xp x86 does not identify the GPU. I have 3D acceleration enabled in VirtualBox, GuestAdditions are installed. I'm running this all on laptop Asus X50N, it has a Hybrid SLI of nForce610M/GeForce7000M. When i try to run NVIDIA driver installation in Debian, it says, that No GPU found, supported by this driver.
How can i fix this?
Thanks for replies and excuse me for my English.

Debian Lenny amd64 guest ... 3D acceleration enabled in VirtualBox,
wont work: Lenny ships a 2.6.26 kernel but 2.6.27 and up is required for linux guest 3D (see manual)
GuestAdditions are installed. ... When i try to run NVIDIA driver installation
Guest Additions install the vboxvideo driver for the virtual GPU, thats the right one.
You dont get direct access to the real graphic chip from the guest

You know, it's in the VirtualBox FAQ why the nVidia tool won't work ;). Explained above :).
