Can not capture USB devices

I am running VISTA 64x SP2 as my host.
Just downloaded VB 3.0.2

I had an old guest that I started, removed the virtual additions and reinstalled the lastest virtual additions.

I have a symbol Win CE 4.2 data collection unit.
Under vista it appears correctly.

If i right click on the usb icon and try to attach the unknown device I get a failed to attach message, device is busy.

If i stop the dvice under Vista, and try it does the same thing.

If I shut down the guest and create a filter... i dont know what that does it is not in the documentation... it doesnt make a difference.

If I unplug the device and try plugging it in with the VB box full screen it makes no difference.

I always get the same error.

Is there anyway to get USB device to work?

You added a filter for the device, was it a device specific one (where all the fields are filled) or a blank one? If it was the prior, try the latter (a blank one). Then when the VM has focus, plug in the device.
Filters are used to automatically grab a USB device to the VM when the VM is started, or the device is plugged in. Blank filters only work when the device is plugged it, not when it's already attached.

When you capture a USB device for the VM, Windows should prompt you to install a driver for it, the default VirtualBox USB device. Every newly grabbed device should prompt this, devices that were grabbed before and done this driver install won't pop it up again.

I had the same problem. You may want to check if you had installed any "filter" device driver. For my case, my laptop had been installed with AMD USB FIlter Driver. After uninstalling it VirtualBox guest OS can then identify USB devices.
