KDE effects not working on Virtual Box v2.2.4r47978

Post by mejim »

Hello,

Im using VirtualBox 2.2.4r47978 on a Windows Vista host . I installed Kubuntu 8.01 as a guest OS, but the KDE effects were not working, same is the case with KUbuntu 9.04. I have enabled 3D accelaration in the settings and have also installed the Guest addons(VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run). Im using a Dell laptop and my graphics card version is "Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family" . The KDE effects work when i create a dual boot system and boot into KUbuntu.
Is this a bug in VBox ? . Any way i can make the KDE effects work ?.

Please help.
Thank You.

Your chipset seems to be the problem. Read here. http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18585
One has had success by upgrading to VBox 3.0.2

Not only your graphics card is a problem, but KDE is the main issue. 2.2.x doesn't support KDE effects. Or actually, KDE doesn't support the VB Graphics card when the GA are installed. I believe that 3.0.x solved this.
