USB with VB 3.0.2

Post by raygk »

I have several Windows guests on a Windows XP host machine. I had been using VB 2.2.4 and just upgraded to 3.0.2. At the very beginning I was able to use a USB thumb dirve with a guest but now no USB drive works with any guest OS. When I click on the USB device option, I get an error message "Failed to attach the USB devise USB Mass Storage Device [0100] to the virtual machine Vista Ultimate. USB device 'USB Mass Storage Device' with UUID {a726523f-3d1e-4c89-9fb1-2df47c52cd46} is busy with a previous request. Please try again later.
Details:
Result Code: E_INVALIDARG (0x80070057)
Component: HostUSBDevice {173b444-d268-4334-a00d-b6521c9a740a}"

When this error occurs I am not using/viewing the USB thumb drive in the host machine. The USB drives work fine in the host machine and were working in the guest machines before. I tried re-installing Guest Additions and also tried a "repair" re-install of the VB but neither did any good. This same error occurs on all guest machines I have.

How can I get the USB interface working? Is there a known problem with VB 3.0.2 relating to this?

Well, I don't know why but now the USB drives do work with my guest systems (???). I didn't do anything extra to get it to work but for unknown reasons I can now use the USB drives with various guest machines without any trouble. Perhaps either the re-install of the Additions or the repair install I did with VB 3.0.2 did the trick but it wasn't working yesterday after I did the re-installs.

Note to CAIT: If you have not tried the re-installs I mentioned, I would give them a try. This might have been the reason my machines now can see the USB drives.

Anyway, I'm happy to have USB control back again. There is another problem I'm having relating to shared folders but I will open a new topic with my description.
