usb problem again...

usb problem again...

installed vbox from repo... works great, usb ARE found! (which is diffrent from my last expirience). worked amazing for a day! - then hal got updated and now i see them (usb) but cant load them in... i thought mybe i need to unmount them? but how do you unmount a webcam and bluetooth?? and why before hal got updated - i didnt need to unmount them??
- if this help's i had to manually mount my usb flash stick before hal got updated, now its automounting.

Reads like your host doesn't want to share. I've seen Available, Captured and Busy for Current State, but never Unavailable. You may just need to downgrade to the previous hal version.

Hi,

have u tried to run VirtualBox as root??
I have Ubuntu an no USB Device worked till i had the idea to run it as root.

Same here, btw. But I would like to be able to run VB as a normal user, as was possible through the nine month before ... If somebody has found the solution, would be grateful to learn more. See my other post from today http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic. ... highlight=

Your host system blocks USB devices as a normal user.
In Linux just chmod the device file.
An example, for your camera:

[user@machinename] $ su root
<Digit root password here>
[root@machinename] # chmod 666 /proc/bus/usb/001/004
I found this way to use usb devices on guest system.
Need to chmod all the time when you plug some device, but works!
Remember to close and re-open VirtualBox after do this.
