I just installed WinXP using Virtual Box. My machine is running on Win XP also. The Vdi file size is 1.48GB .But when i checked the size from the Guest OS, file size was 0.98gb.

What is the reason from the extra 0.4 gb of file size. Is it normal?

I set the size as Dynamic, but the user is the Guest OS will see size as 10GB.

Sorry but I don't understand what you mean. How did you check exactly?

My Host is WinXP. The OS in virtualbox is Win XP (Guest OS), it only has 1 drive(C:).

The vdi file when i checked in my host pc, it was 1.49 gb.
When i accesed the guest os and checked the C:, it showed that it only used 0.98 gb.

Is there any way i can shrink the vdi file to 0.98 gb.

The VDI is made of 4 MB 'chunks', which causes this kind of overhead. Once the hard drive reaches it's full size, e.g. 20 GB, it won't be bigger than that. If you would fill it up until there is not a single byte left of free space, the VDI won't be much larger than what you defined for it.
