Guest additions + DirectX + Vista = infinite "starting"

Guest: Vista 32 bits, 1 processor,.

When I install the guest additions of 3.0.2 from safe mode with the directX support, the system won't load in normal mode. It will stay forever in a starting screen. This doesn't happen when installing additions without directx. And this didn't happen with 3.0.0 additions + directx.

The system can still however boot from safe mode, from which guest additions can be uninstalled.

Does it happen to anyone else?

Please post file versions of windows\system32\msd3d8.dll and windows\system32\msd3d9.dll.

Both say 3.0.2.0 as file version, and 3.0.2.49928 as product version.

Seems that's the issue. Those files should be a backup of microsoft's original d3d8/9.
As a temporary workaround you might want to reinstall directx and after that reinstall guest additions.
