How do I Install Red Hat server 5.3 ?

Post by Linux4Life2009 »

Hi ! Basically there are two problems I am facing

(1) I created a virtual hard disk and installed Red Hat server Linux 5.3 on it from an ISO image file ... But when I quit the virtual machine and restart my PC and then again start the virtually installed OS ... it starts from the installation process as if it was never installed before ... . Please can u tell me if I am going wrong anywhere ? My host OS is Windows XP [Service Pack 2]

(2) I cannot access Internet in the installed Linux with Virtual Box ... do I need to change Internet settings ? If so what do I change .... [ I am using DSL broadband connection ]

P.s : Please explain to me in an easy manner :D

I don't know if it's 3.0.0 specific, but if you don't change the boot sequence for the VM, and forget to unmount the install CD/ISO, then it's only natural that the installation starts again. By default, the boot priority is floppy, cd, hdd.

As for the network, default NAT should be enough. The type of NIC it emulates might need to be changed. Some don't have much success with the default PCNet adapter and switch to an Intel one.

Just something to keep in mind when installing a new VM or VB version.
