Hello!
I have installed centos 5.3 on my server and a windows 2008 server virtualized, I need access to HDD is very fast, I have an Adaptec 1220SA SATAII controller 3GB of transfer and transferred to the local machine and 230MB/seg within the virtual machine 2008 transferred to 40MB/Sec windows. How can so you can optimize to run because it is more essential since it is a SQL server and need quick access to the HDD! any suggestions? Has something to do that is mounted under linux? or recommend it under windows? Thanks in advance!

What about creating the virtual disk using RAW disks o partitions instead of files?

VDI file as you think, not how you create in other ways.
I think the advantage of VDI virtualize disks is to use since you can copy and restore it easily.
