Move *.vdi, relocate a VM?

Post by tofix67 »

Hi Guys, hi VBox World

In meantime I've created some VMs of diffrent OS.
For example LinuxMint, Win7 RC.....
For that new VMs I have created the *.vdi, the virtual drive at another partition of my computer, different from systempartition C:\.
Is their a way to get my first VM for Ubuntu out off my system C:\ :?:

At first I copied the *.vdi to another place and tried to change the path for the virtual drive by dialog:
VM==>dialog==>harddrive....
But their is a message wich told me that their is a *.vdi with the same name in another path!
Renaming the file ==> same result.

Than I have exported the whole VM, "renamed".
After that I tried to import this VM. But in the first dialog I can see the "path" for the VM. And it would be the same.
So I stopped!

Can you help me? :roll:
Is their a way to get the VM, the *.vdi out of my system partition, to relocate it :idea:

The reason is to get the system C:\ so small as possible. I won't have the full VMs in the backup copy/image of c:\.

Thanks for help

It's easy. In the Virtual Media Manager, you have to unregister the VDI that's on the C:\ drive. You can see it's path when the file is selected. After you removed it from the media manager, register the VDI from the new location and attach it to the VM that it belongs to (from the VM settings).
