Fedora 11 + VirtualBox 3.0.0 - Win XP guest startup problem

Post by ELWisty »

Hi,

I've Fedora 11, Gnome, 64bit, dual boot with OpenSUSE 11.1, KDE. 2 gb ram, a dual core processor. Installed version of VirtualBox is 3.0.0, PUEL. Windows XP guest.

I originally had the XP guest in VirtualBox in OpenSUSE, working without problems. When I added Fedora and installed VirtualBox there, I copied the existing virtual hard disk. Now, when I try to run it in Fedora, there's no problem running the software but the guest startup gets stuck at the welcome screen.

I allotted the guest 700 mb of base memory and 56 mb of video memory, acpi is enabled, hard disk is first in the boot order. I do not have 3d acceleration enabled in the display settings. In the hard disk settings IDE controller type is PIIX4, no additional controllers are enabled.

What could be the problem here? Thanks in advance for any help.

I would look at the settings closely in the OpenSUSE of the WinXP guest. Write them down and be sure that they are exactly the same in the Fedora VBox settings.
Also it is a lot easier if they are the same version of VBox.
