Weird Direct3d issue

Here is a strange one. I am running the latest VirtualBox on a Fedora 10 host. My guest OS is XP Pro. I have 3D acceleration enabled and have installed the guest additions and dxdiag says that direct3d is available. My issue is this. Whenever I do anything that requires direct3d, from launching the Project64 emulator to just doing the direct3d test in dxdiag, it kills my entire X session and I find myself back at the Fedora login screen. This happens in both KDE and Gnome. System wise, I am running a Phenom Quad core with twin 8800GT cards in an SLI setup. Please don't tell me to install the proprietary Nvidia drivers, they render my machine useless. Any ideas?

Well, iirc the Direc3d support is built upon a working OpenGL environment on the host, that is direct3d calls on the guest are translated to OGL on the ohost. Maybe you might need the prop. nvidia driver... Don't know how OGL works without it, the prop.driver works fine for me :)
