Guest OSs have poor connectivity under Vista

Hi Guys,
the other day I got a new PC which came with Vista Home.
I have installed VirtualBox and Ubuntu and openSUSE. The networking is the default NAT.
Both host OSes seem to have networking problems.
During the install of openSUSE (network install), I had a large number of DNS errors.
Fortunately, I was offered the option of retrying and so managed to get all the files downloaded.
During configuration, YAST2 hung while downloading files. I had to reboot and run repair to fix the install.
I had several more hangs while downloading files when booting repair.
Eventually I got openSUSE installed. However, I can't browse the internet for more than a few minutes
before openSUSE hangs - both FF and Konquerer.
Ubuntu installed properly. However it seems to have a very limited number of connections available.
So while I am downloading updates, FF can't connect to any sites. FF can't seem to open more than one page at a time.
Most times that I try to open a page with FF, I get a "Page Load Error". So far, I've had no errors applying updates.
So basically, neither OS can be used for browsing.
I have both of these OSes running fine as guests under Windows XP.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Russell
