I RDP into a VM running Windows Vista, and open a text document with many long lines in notepad.

Part of the screen gets overwritten by a blank white box. This happens depending on the location of the mouse (e.g. on the scroll bar, etc).
Selecting the text paints it again. Playing around with the scroll bar brings back the white box.

Doesn't happen when VM is Windows XP. Doesn't happen in other applications (like MS word).

I tried grabbing a screenshot, but in the screenshot the white box did not appear.

Any suggestions?

P.S. The RDP client is Windows XP or Vista.

Nasty screen artifacts are almost always caused by try to use all of the video resources in the client that is available in the host (RD).
Try turning down some of the video resources in the client an see if this helps.
You may need to turn down the host a little as well, but usually the guest settings will correct this error.

Small addition: This only happens when using the VRDP feature.
When RDP directly into the machine, all works just fine.

Another VRDP-specific issue: In regular RDP, if there is already a client connected, the new client kicks out the old one. In VRDP, the new client is refused and you need to find the old one and shut it down.
