Drop Shadows on Icons

I have always used Drop Shadows on desktop icons with Windows XP and it worked good. For some reason I can't get VirtualBox 3.0 to use this feature it is drawing a blue block for the icon label instead of using a drop shadow. Is this a known bug or limitation ?
