Hi.
I have my smart card reader, but I cant get it to work I always get this error, sometimes it works tho. but most of the time it does not work.

This is how I do it:

1---> Check the box in Enable USB controller.
2---> Start the virtual XP (my primary OS is also XP)
3---> go to devices ->USB devices ->check the Smart reader & get this error
4---> Unplug smart card reader & plug it in again

5---> my primary Os tries to install USB driver (Its actyally already installed I dunno why it asks again) It says Installing virtualbox USB something

6---> go to devices ->USB devices ->check the Smart reader & get this error again
7---> Unplug smart card reader & plug it in again

8---> go to devices ->USB devices ->check the Smart reader & My virtualbox window = not responding.

Welcome to USB in a Windows Host.

I have been battling this for over a year and it simply will not work as it should. I have tried everything and the best I could get was enable the USB in settings and leave the filters empty. Open the guest and click on the device tab and select the USB device you want. If you are lucky it will work. If not it will throw an exception error and you will find that the GUI and the VBoxsvc has failed. Then you have to shut everything down and start over again.

I finally took it for what it was and simply shared a folder on the USB drive and mapped it. Problem solved.
By the way USB works flawlessly in Ubuntu Jaunty host. I guess you can say it's a Windows thing. At least that is what I tell myself. :D

You can share USB storage devices but any other USB device can not be attached predictably and that is in my opinion the biggest disadvantage of VB at this point.
