Windows 7 RC

Hello,
I can see I've got a LOT to learn about using virtualbox 3.0.0 , I downloaded the windows 7 rc iso image to my hard drive. I'm trying to use virtualbox on my acer aspire 5100-3357 laptop that has windows vista home premium sp2 installed on it. I followed the instructions for trying to set up a new virtual box. When I got to the memory allocation screen, I allocated 512 mb of memory as suggested, since I only have 1 GB of DDR2 memory installed. I got the virtual box to at least start up the iso image that's on my hard drive. I got to see the windows installation screen, and the screen that asked if I accepted the terms of use, which I did. But that was seemingly as far as I was able to get, my goal was to be able to just check out windows 7 without having to 'actually' install it. I also remember being presented with two choices about how I wanted to install windows 7, either do an upgrade, or a clean install. I chose the upgrade version, as I stated before..I've got a lot of learning to do.

Choose clean install instead. Upgrade is if you already have a windows on the disk you are installing to. This is your new vdi which is blank.

David,

The requirements for Windows 7 RC are that you need at least 1 gig of Ram to install. I have managed to turn this down to 512 after the install but have not tried to install with this low of memory. Also you should install as new and not an upgrade. Since you do not have but 1 gig of memory you will see a major performance hit even if you manage to get it to install at 512. Vista really needs the 1 gig to operate properly as well so you might want to consider a memory upgrade if you want to continue to run (2) operating systems at one time.

WOW,
I'm really impressed..people really trying to help me in here, I should have been more careful when I bought my laptop..at the time I guess I thought 1gb would be enough. As it turns out..it's really just the minimum amount you need for windows vista.
Thanks SO much !!
