COD Server Direct X error

Post by theroar »

Greetings. I had a dream of creating a vm with XP and COD4 on it running a server. I figured I would put the VM out in the DMZ. Since it was a vm... all would be well. =)

I saw the post of ARS that you have openGL and DirectX in the works so I figured I would give it a go.

I have everthing installed, but when I try to launch the server I get a direct X error.

Any tips?

Thanks for your time.

Did you follow all the guidelines/tips others have tried who had dx errors?

Did a search for COD, but found nothing.

I just did a search for DX error and nothing seemed to apply either.

Thanks for the tip though.

See also the beta feedback forum. Any specific error messages?

Will look at the beta feedback area.

The error is as underspecific as possible...

dx error.

Wish I had more.

Thanks again.

Alright, found posts that told me COD would not start. They were talking about the game, instead of the server console, but I can see it is unlikely my plan will work.

Can you please tell me what the "guest additions" are? I searched and they are referenced a ton, but I did not spot where they are explained...

I also saw that it seemed people were installing video cards... I look at my hardware and I have a base system device and video controller that need installing.

XP sp3 is the os.

Thanks.
