Can't upgrade Vbox - Installation rollbacks in the middle!

Post by klopus »

This started from version 2.2.3 with which I'm stuck on Vista Home. Every time I try to upgrade (first to 2.2.4 and now to 3.0) installation starts, then during un-installation phase of the previous version it displays "rolling back" message and exits. I tried un-installing Vbox from Control Panle with the same effect. Also tried disabling firewall and AV - same thing. Please help!

Thanks.

Several things that you can try,
uninstall the version that you have and then reboot. Then right click on the install icon and then left click on install as admin.
If this fails then you need to read this http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3701
Others have had success by using Revo Uninstaller to remove Vbox completely and then installing the new copy of Virtualbox.

Thanks for the reply. I tried all this, except for Revo, before. One thing that solved my problem was Microsoft's Windows Install Cleanup Utility (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301). I ran it as an admin and cleaned out old VB 2.2.3 installation. After that 3.0 installation went fine.

Thank you. I have seen this before but could not find it fast enough to make that a proposal. I now have it bookmarked.
