Help with connecting from VirtualBox to Host Machine...

I am having some trouble connecting my Virtual Box to my home network regardless whether it is XP, Vista, or Server 2003.

I have the same workgroup name for host and guest (virtual machine). My host PC is Vista SP2 x64.

My router is a D-Link on a 192.168.0.x/24 network currently set as DHCP from .100 to .199.

My network adapter in my virtual PC is on a 10.0.2.x/24 network by default.

My "VirtualBox Host-Only Network" adapter in my Vista machine hosting Virtual PC defaulted to a 192.168.56.x/24 network (not sure how/why?). Do I even need to touch the "VirtualBox Host-Only Network" adapter?

I changed the settings in my virtual machine:

IP Address: 192.168.0.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.0.1

These were the same settings for my actual LAN card through IPCONFIG (except of course IP address)

I can access the internet on my Virtual machine with default settings, I can see my server in network connections in Vista, but I can't connect. I created a shared folder in the virtual machine just to see if I could access it.

If I do a direct connect with UNC \\192.168.0.100 it doesn't do anything. I can ping to the Virtual machine, but can't ping out of it, within my local network.

I'm lost!

PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks!

Host only means host only.
Have you considered Bridged mode to make you life easier or is there a reason why you do not want to use it?

Please read chapter 6 of the User Manual. That explains all the networking methods available in VB. The default setting is NAT, which gives you 10.0.2.15, and the Host can be found on either it's own IP or 10.0.2.2. If you want your VM to be part of the network, use Bridged.

Thank you. I see, RTFM! :D VirtualBox is 100% new to to me. Bridged mode works great! Thanks a billion.
