50% CPU anytime

Post by pat134 »

Hi everybody,

I suffer a strange pb both at work and home .. so maybe it's normal but quite disturbing : Virtualbox is ALWAYS using 50%CPU on the host, whatever the guest do ...
i'm using VirtualBox 3.0.0r49315 on Win XP up to date.

I've got a Core2Duo E8400 / 4 Gb ram and allocate 1 Gb for the Win XP Guest. So, I don't think it's a limitation ..
During the installation of WinXP (waiting for input), it use 50% CPU ... same prb once installed ..

i missed something ?

Thanks for any idea .. :)

Create a dummy VM (no hdd or anything, just the pure basics) and boot it when the other VM is running. You can pause the dummy VM if you want whenever you want. If your CPU usages goes down to normal, then you're experiencing a problem that's around for quite some time and is rather hard to fix. Linux Guests doesn't seem to do this, only Windows. AFAIK, there isn't a real solution except running a second VM with whatever you like.
