amd virtualization on host and guest

Post by koala121 »

OK, this is getting annoying. I am running VB 3.0.0 and can't seem to get VB to recognize AMD-V so I can run OpenSolaris 64bit as a guest. I'm running windows xp 64 bit host, have AMD-V selected on guest OS, have a 64 bit version of OpenSolaris to install, and It won't boot after install. When I check the machine log, it shows VME enabled on guest and host, but not VMX on either. Bios for the host has AMD virtualization enabled, I have an athlon x2 dual core 5000+ processor that both the documentation and Securable show as AMD-V capable. What am I missing? tried searching the posts, hit many problem on 64 bit machines, but none that helped my problem. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Download a Linux LiveCD for 64 bit and boot that. If somehow the 64 bit extensions aren't passed through, the boot of that LiveCD will show that. You will get an error like "Cannot boot system, no 64 bit processor found" or similar.

downloaded and used a 64bit livecd of Ubuntu. It installed fine, runs great, and lshw show the correct 64 bit processor, 64bit capable mainboard, and that it is running in a 64bit kernel. Yet for some reason, when I check the Vbox log, it says that VMX is not capable on either the host or the guest. Still having trouble with OpenSolaris booting up. Runs fine from the Livecd, but wont boot after installed, gets stuck on the boot screen. Is there something I'm missing?

Have you completely powered down the host after enabling amd-v?

My way: "You live as long as you learn".

I've had AMD-V enabled for some time, long before VB was installed, in fact.
