Just updated my VB version from 2.2.0 to 3.0.0. After updating the VB-network driver on my host, my XP guest network is really slow. Most websites don't get to load, watching a video on youtube is almost impossible. I am using the PCnet fast III (NAT) interface. I also reinstalled th VB-guest additions.
I din't have these problems with the earlier version of VB. Any suggestions on how to improve speed.
Oh I almost forgot: Sometimes the guest hangs on booting. I noticed if I deactivate the network adapter before booting and activate it once XP is running, the guest does not hang.
Thanks for any hints,
Mr.Fab

Re: Network as slow as never before
Switching the network adapter to the IntelPRO/1000 MT should fix this problem.

Re: Network as slow as never before
Just by trying out I found that this also fixes shared folders being dead slow (between Vista 64 host and XP 32 bit guest).
Does the PCnet fast III "driver" need a bug fix ?

When choosing Intel driver (no matter which one) I always get the message "Failed to get the MAC value".
Errorcode: E_FAIL (0x80004005)

Re: Network as slow as never before
I believe this means that you have selected an adapter that the guest does not have or is not using.
You will need to get the drivers for the adapter and put them in the guest before you change so you can update the drivers after you boot the guest.
I did this by going to Intel and downloading the drivers that I needed before I changed the device in the settings window.
Then booted in safe mode to change them. Seemed to work just fine.
If you are not able to do this because of network problems you can download the drivers to the host and either put them in the share folder or burn them to CD/DVD.

Re: Network as slow as never before
I am not sure that is the solution because VB does not allow me to start the VM at all and I don't think VB is checking, if I have the correct driver installed (on the VM).
I am more guessing the driver for the host is missing.

@Mr.Fab
Look in the settings for the guest and when you select the IntelPro adapter, click the little gear to the right and see if it has a MAC address entered in it. It not click the green arrows and generate a new one and then see if you get this error.
