VB 3.0.0 no Audio, Host Win 7 x64 to Win XP Pro x32

I am a beginner at using Virtual Box, however I LOVE it so far! The only thing that is bugging me is the fact, that for the life of me I cannot get the audio to work in Win XP from Win 7. I have tried everything I can think of, and the weird thing is is that even though I have audio in Win 7 just fine, I have NO AUDIO DEVICES in Guest XP! Please help!

Please read the Forum Posting Guide and give more information. What are the settings for the VM? Do you see any devices with yellow question marks (?) or exclamation marks (!)?

The driver for the audio card is not installed. Windows should have the driver build in, so let it search for it. Else a visit to Windows Update might reveal it, but going to www.realtek.com.tw will surely get you a working driver.

Ok here is the weird thing. I have tried to install the Realtek driver in both forms, with an exe- and pointing the device managaer directly to the driver. Both times I get a BSOD, citing portCSL I can update you with actual number code in a few minutes. The other form, Soundblaster 16, audio controller is not even in the drivers... and still- no sound. When I go to sound the top of the window says No Audio Device present. However there is sound from the host, just not the guest. If my host sound card matters it is an X-fi Xtreme Gamer. What should I do now?

*The BSOD Code is 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF564E46D, 0xF7A45A74, 0xF7A45770)

There were indeed some users that reported the same problem, BSOD when installing the Realtek driver, but others had no problems with it. If it's still a clean VM, then reinstall Windows. It should have the driver for the audio card with it, unless you removed it yourself with some tool, or the install disk you're using has it stripped (like third party ISO's). Best thing you can do is get an SP2 install disk, but an SP-less one should have it too.
If you don't want to reinstall Windows, then mount the install CD and let Windows check the disk for available drivers.

Got it working now! Thanks.

PS- All that I did was reinstall XP, and it worked... I don't know the exact reason why the other one didn't work...

VirtualBox and Vista/7 has always been picky with audio. Half the time, an XP guest will get audio installed no problem and the other half, it's driver hunting time. Vista and 7 guests NEVER get their audio drivers, but luckily I found a driver package for AC97 that I'm holding on to now.

Win7 has it in Windows Update. Vista should have it build in, like XP or else also on WU. Having a working driver in some pack can seriously help though :).

We've been through this before Sasquatch. Unless both my laptop and my desktop both running Vista and 7 at some point as the host have some special kink that no one else has, I have never, ever had my guest operating systems have audio. It was only until 2.1 (I think) that my guests started having audio automatically, but Vista and 7 guests still don't get an audio driver on their own, nor do they show up in Windows Update.
