Complicated set of circumstances.
Initially had a Vista 64 host using 2.2.2. Created a Windows 7 64-bit guest that uses sata drives with no problem. Upgraded to 2.2.4, changed host to Windows 7 build 7137. Now anytime I create a Windows 7 64-bit guest it works ok if I use IDE drives but crashes if I use sata drives in the guest.
The crashes can range from bluescreens in the guest to VirtualBoxGUI crashing on the host.
I tried upgrading to 3.0.0 but VBoxGuestAdditions setup fails so I rolled back to 2.2.4.
What I can't figure out is why I have an existing VM that uses sata fine but any new ones I create crash. Very strange.
VBox 2.2.4 Can't Use SATA Drives in new VMs
Re: VBox 2.2.4 Can't Use SATA Drives in new VMs
I've never found sata to be stable enough, however there are 2 sata modes, plain sata on the Slots and IDE on the slot with the sata toggle enabled, the later works just as fast as real sata but is 100% stable.
