VirtualBox 3.0 VboxGuestAdditions Crash On Install: Solved
Posted: 2. Jul 2009, 02:50
Just upgraded from 2.2.4 where everything was mostly working.
This is Windows 7 host and Windows 7 guest both 64-bit.
First boot under 3.0, went into safe mode to install new guest additions. Installed with the 3d accel option. Setup crashed a bit after the driver install.
Setup proceeds to "Updating driver for plug'n play devices...
then throws the error message:
Error (e0000234): Unknown error!
ERROR: Could not install files for Windows 2000/XP/Vista! Installation was aborted.
Tried again several times some in safe mode some with normal boot - guest additions setup crashes every time. I'm going to roll back I guess.
Edit:
Several hours later...
The problem was not uninstalling the prior version of VBoxGuestAdditions before installing the new one.
I actually did two things:
1) Uninstall 2.2.4, reboot, clean install 3.0.0
2) Uninstalled VBoxGuestAdditions in guest, rebooted guest, reinstalled the 3.0.0 version of the additions.
Seems to be working ok now and it sees two CPUs which is cool.
