Slow Share folder access from Guest

Re:Slow Share folder access from Guest

I noticed this also even with the newest version VirtualBox 3.0.
I really needed faster shared folder access and can enable internet surfing whenever, so:
As a workaround, If you disable the virtual network adapter( Devices->networkAdapters->uncheck the one you have. ),
the shared folder screams along like it should.

It appears to be a latency with address resolution handling between the using shared folder and the rest of the world.

My problem is getting a share folder to stick. It seems like I have to remap the path every time. What's worse is sometimes it prefers the hostname and other's it will only except my current ip address as the server :?: (it's on a lap top it travels a lot). I'm running Vista P 32bit with Virtualbox 3.0 as host and Ubuntu 9.04 as guest. I know i've set up the share correctly on the host OS because it will map but it is so spotty with Ubuntu in the VM. I tried the Network Adapter trick above as well as assigning a static ip in the alternate configuration for the wireless on the PC. I'm new to Ubuntu but is it really this hard to get a share folder to just stay there and not have to map the thing every time I launch the VM?

@eponym,

How are you mapping the share in Ubuntu?
Mine is a persistent mapping and shows up at all times. To achieve this I placed the mount statement in the /etc/rc.local file (see statement below).
Replace the Shared with the name you gave your share and the /mnt/Shared with the full path to where you created the mount. Also remember to not use spaces or special characters in the share name. The gid and uid are your numbers which should be the same but verify by typing id in terminal.

Code: Select all

mount -t vboxsf -o rw,gid=1000,uid=1000 Shared /mnt/Shared

Thanks, guess I'm just so use to GUI. learning new commands for terminal is going to take some time. This worked for mapping as well as downloading with out crashing the VM.
