Hello all,

I've tried the various methods listed for uninstalling virtualbox from vista but have had no luck so far. Always getting the "rolling back action" when trying to install. I though 3.0 might be able to install, but I get the same result of "rolling back action".

Can anyone assist in removing 2.2.0 from my Vista 64-bit SP2 Host OS?

First thing to try is to reinstall version 2.2.0 and select repair. Once this has been done and before you reboot run the install again and select uninstall. Then you should be able to install the new version. If this fails let me know there are (2) other things that you can try but this usually fixes it.

Gave that a try. Didn't work.

It's worth noting that the repair did work - but seemed to be using 2.1.4 (at least that's what it suggested in the lower left corner) - while the virtualbox install (about) suggests I'm running 2.2.0.

First you really need to be sure which version you are really using. Click on help about in the VBox program. Then you need to reinstall that version and the repair and then uninstall.

If that does not work then you can try to use the suggestion here: http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3701

And finally you can try to remove the registry information using this: Revo uuinstaller

The "about" when running the program gives me 2.2.0.
When using the install file for 2.2.0 there is no section allowing me to "repair" or "uninstall".
Through windows Add/Remove I am given the "repair" and "uninstall" options.
However, when those run the window which opens is 2.1.4

I'll try the other options as well... but this is confusing.

For those unable to uninstall VBox 2.2:
To be able to uninstall you would need to copy the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion?\DIFxApp\Components registry key (and its sub-keys) from the HKEY_CURRENT_USER to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branch.

Here are the steps for doing this:

1. run the registry editor (press windows + R , type regedit and press OK)
2. in the left pane browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion?\DIFxApp\Components -> there should be some sub-keys having GUID names located under the "Components"
3. export the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion?\DIFxApp\Components to some file (right-click the "Components" key, select "Export", type a file name where you want to export the settings (e.g. C:\foo.reg) )
4. open the exported .reg file (either with notepad or some other text editor or right-click it in explorer and select "Edit")
5. substitute the HKEY_CURRENT_USER with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the file, save and close the ditor.
6. import the .reg file (either double-click it in the explorer or in the registry editor use menu File->Import-> browse to a file, select it and press "Open")

Once this is done you should be able to uninstall.
