Virtualbox 3.0.0 don't install it

I did..noting but troubles.

- Problems installing it. It just stalled at one point. Nothing happened for 15 min ...I had to stop the installation by killing the process
- Starting different linux guest ... some would not start..only after restarted several times..if got up and running
- Guests are VERY SLOW now ..with very high CPU usage >65 %

I have now gone back to 2.2.4

So I say wait for a later 3.x release..this one is just not ready

What host? I didn't have those problems. My guests actually run quite a bit faster under 3.0b2. However, they crash quite a bit now. Yes, I agree, don't install Beta software if you depend on it. Leave it to the people that like to experiment!

Whenever I'm assigning 4 processors to my Guest OS [Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit], it's much slower compare to assigning 1 processor. I'm using Windows 7 RC 64-bit Host btw. So the only thing that is dragging down my performance is using the new SMP implementation.

4 Gig Ram
Windows 7 RC 64-bit Host
Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit Guest

I just saw that 3.0.0 is out of beta! I'm getting the latest version and testing with it right now! So far, it seems like *nix hosts with SMP are much slower than they were under beta2. Haven't run long enough to know if crashing is fixed. Server 2008 actually boots now in SMP (unlike in the beta).

I have installed the 3.0.0 release version and I am very impressed by it. I am only having one small problem that I have found a workaround for. I had also installed both of the betas.

I am running on an Ubuntu 8.04 quad core host. I have a Windows XP guest with 2 cores assigned to it. I think that SMP is giving a noticeable performance improvement.

Here is the one problem I have, but as I said, I think I have found a workaround.

Occasionally, about once or twice a day, my guest seems to freeze. When this happens, the System Monitor in Ubuntu shows 2 cores at 100% CPU usage. This seems to happen when the guest is in the foreground and and the host goes to sleep. Last night, I made sure that the guest was minimized before I went to bed. This morning, the guest had not frozen.

I'm currently having the same freezing issue on a pretty clean Windows 7 x64 host. Twice now within the hour my freshly installed XP SP3 guest has frozen completely with the host CPU maxed out at 100% on all cores. Have left it for a while and nothing happens although I notice the VirtalBox GUI still works... I can power off the machine, save the state etc. It's what's going on inside the window that's freezing.

I agree, doesn't seem quite ready for serious use yet, but am going to test with SMP switched off anyway.

I've upgraded two linux hosts (one with 2core and second with 4core) from 2.2.4 to 3.0.
XP SP3 guest with enabled SMP kernel now runs extremely slow and even when guest is on idle my host is hit with 100% CPU usage on all assigned cores for guest.

I think that this version should be called 3.0 Beta 3 . I don't doubt that this will be fixed in near future but this is not good if you have production server.
