As always, I really appreciate the work developers are doing in upgrading so often this remarkable software.

I also have the feeling, however, that in recent times the release of new versions has become somehow affected by some kind of hurry.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think that, at least for production users, it would be wise to wait for a while, just in case a 3.0.x release becomes available in a couple of weeks...

By the way, why has anyone yet decided to add to the GUI a kind of "Save as..." option with which to easily create a clone of a VM?

Just installed VirtualBox 3.0 on a laptop which was using VMWare Workstation 6.52. The VMWare VM (Win 2003) also uses bridged network. After VBX is installed, VMWare VM has trouble to establish network connection. Going to host's (WinXP) Control Panel, Network. In the Network Interface properties, uncheck "VirtualBox Bridged Networking Driver" and the VMWare VM could connect right away.

On my own laptop. In host WinXP, the Network interface has both "VirtualBox Bridged Networking Driver" and "VMWare Bridged Protocol" enabled. I have noticed that I sometimes have the same issue above. After a few reboot of the VMWare VM, the issue is gone. May be it will come back.

Si basically, is there any harm to have two different bridged drivers on the same network interface?

I'm still having trouble with an opensolaris guest still. installed VB 3.0.0 hoping it would work this time. I'm running a windows xp x64 host and am trying to install an opensolaris10 64bit guest. It boots from the cd with no problem, goes through the install, reboots, but hangs on loading from the hard drive. VB shows hard drive activity for about 1 - 2 second, then nothing.
I read that 64bit guest were an issue in some of version 2 releases, but have also read others that seem to be running opensolaris10 64bit guests. Any ideas from anyone?

@koala121

Please open a topic in the solaris guest forum, posting your guest settings and we will see what can be done.

well thats obviously rubbish, i've got win2003, solaris10, opensolaris 2009.06, debian5, ubuntu 9.04 and more all working just fine.

and it look like you have two windows, three linux and a solaris working, so what more do you want - plan9 or something?!

2 issues so far:

1. Windows Host w/ Windows guest, guest from VB 2.2.2. Host 50% CPU guest at 100% CPU, guest services process sucking up CPU.
2. Windows Host W/Ubuntu 9.04 guest, installed additions fine try to run update mgr and Ubuntu guest freezes.

Installed 3.0 (had to uninstall 2.2.2 - wouldn't upgrade) on Ubuntu 9.04 and the XP VM I have has screwed-up graphics. 3.0 is just UNUSABLE for me. Rolled back to 2.2.2, same shit. It probably destroyed the VM or something :/

tried with and without guest additions.

This release is a nightmare...

It keeps crashing here with vista x64 as Host OS and WinXP x64 as Guest OS. Virtualbox just keeps crashing with this "VirtualBox GUI Stopping Working" error when I update my Eclipse in the Guest. I've tried it for like 3 or 4 times, crashes every time in the middle of the updating.

I have a Kubuntu 9.04 64 bit AMD Phenom host with a Kubuntu 9.04 64 bit guest, a Ubuntu 8.10 32 bit guest and a Winxp 32bit guest.
Upgraided to VBox 3.0. Did not change the number of processors on the XP guest yet and did not mess with D3D yet.

The observations I have are positive
The XP guest seems to run old games a tad better. In Diablo1 a mouse issue is resolved and gameplay is smoother.
The Ubuntu guest seems to give better video performance. I can run fullscreen video from it without stutter. I could not do that with VBox 2.2. I dont know if that has anything to do with me giving my Linux guests 2 cores now instead of 1.
The Linux guests can both do OpenGL fine (as in VBox2.2) but my Kubuntu guest can still not do desktop effects (not that I care much)..

Overall a nice upgrade. It's shocking how you one-upped VMWare with the amount of proc cores a guest can use. (VMWare Workstation is still 2 cores max, right?)
A big thank you from me and please keep up the good work.

Hi,
installing vbox 3.0.0 I can't login into Ubuntu guest anymore. When login window opens: keyboard is such sensitive that multiple characters are displayed. For example if userid is admin then I get: something like: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddddddddddddddddmmmmmmmmmmmmiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnn
<backspace> is also very sensitive so I am unable to delete.

Anyone else have the same problem?

The same guest run without problems in vbox 2.2.4

I have reported a bug: http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/4376

Hello,

considering that registration is optional, how do I disable the registration form from popping up every time I start VB ?

It keeps appearing every time I fire it up since when I upgraded to version 3. Didn't use to happen with 2.x .

VBox 3.0 on XP Sp3, Intel DualCore with 2 CPUs activated runs smooth, but after some time the VM screen freezes and the whole VM just hangs up. There is no load on the VM and I can control the host OS normally, but except for a reset, there is nothing I can do inside the VM, even the mouse pointer is no longer visible inside.

This is reproducable by letting the VM run idle with just the screensave active for some time (about 30-60 minutes). I experienced the same problem in the 3.0 beta.

The only setting I changed from the default settings is the ICH6 Controller and SATA. No DirectX/3D.

i got this briefly with solaris10u7, but installing GA's seem to have fixed it.
