host interface wont let vm start

Post by koala121 »

I'm using VB 2.1.4 because I want to run a solaris 64bit guest and the newer versions are incompatable at this time. I'm using xp 64bit as a host. My problem is I want to try to run the virtual network on host interface, because Nat seems to be extremely slow for some reason. However, every time I try to start the machine with host interface selected, it gives me a "failed to start" error message "failed to attach to network lun" I have selected the hardware I use to connect to the internet on my host, cable connected is selected, and I double checked the properties on my host network and the virtualbox network driver is selected. Does anyone have any ideas? host runs 2gig ram, 512 video and 20gigs allocated to VM for hard drive, 64m video and 512meg ram. Thanks all.

Create a new VM with Host settings and attach VDI to that.

tried a new VM just now, didnt work. Same error message and parameters listed.
I even tried running the VB installer in repair mode as I've seen suggested in some other posts for unknown error, no go there either.
I still get this message, only when Host Interface is selected.

Failed to attach the network LUN
(VERR_INTNET_FLT_IF_NOT_FOUND)

Unknown error creating VM
(VERR_INTNET_FLT_IF_NOT_FOUND)

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {e3c6d4a1-a935-47ca-b16d-f9e9c496e53e}

Did you run the repair from the real admin account? rebooted the Host?

Yes, tried all that. I just removed my nvidia ethernet adapter, then reinstalled it. virtualbox host only adapter finally showed up as a network adapter, but won't load any drivers for it, it keeps faulting out that there's a problem with it. I uninstalled, and installed VB 3.0.0, and it still won't load the drivers for the VB host only adapter, says the parameters are wrong. Any suggestions?

Check the nvidia site for newer drivers, or maybe an older one.

I have the latest drivers for my ethernet adapter. I uninstalled VB once again, and uninstalled the host only driver. I then went back, re-installed VB, and found the host only driver again, but it was disabled, with windows saying no drivers were loaded. So I uninstalled again, then went through the add hardware wizard, did a manual install of the host only adapter (found in program files, sun, drivers, network etc.) and loaded those. Windows said it was installed, then in the same window says an error occured - "the system cannot find the file specified"

Is this a problem with the driver settings or what?

Thanks.

FIXED!!!

Laughingly simple. I was having trouble with other drivers all of a sudden. It was my motherboard drivers. Either one of Micro$oft$ numberous updates took them out, or they just degraded. Loaded the most current mother board resource drivers, and away it went. Thanks for all the help, and hope this helps someone else!
