Virtual drive Read Only

Post by wijs »

Is there a way I can make my virtual drive image read only so no matter what I change, when I restart it it will be the same? I've tried making the file read only but it doesn't seem to work.

VBoxManage modifyhd <uuid>|<filename> --type immutable

From the manual: chapter 5.3
2. By contrast, immutable images only remember write accesses temporarily while
the virtual machine is running; all changes are lost when the virtual machine is
closed.
Some say: "You learn as long as you live".
My way: "You live as long as you learn".

Your command
vboxmanage modifyhd c:\virtualbox\data\pro\pro.vdi --immutable
Should be
VBoxManage modifyhd c:\virtualbox\data\pro\pro.vdi type --immutable

Thanks Does vbox allow putting the differencing drive on another folder

Which command would tell vbox the differencing drive on another folder?

@vuser01,

What is your host and what is the absolute path to the file?
If this is openSUSE as your profile says then you do not have a C drive.
