 Problems installing Windows.

I'm running:

Mandrake 2009.1 KDE 4.2

vbox 2.2.4 r47978

------

I'm trying to set up Windows XP Pro using VBox.

I get this error:

"VirtualBox - Error in suplibOsInit"

Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

|abort|

I had Vbox working yesterday, same OS, same VBox file downloaded from VBox.
formatted the hdd, started again for other reasons.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Easy one. If you checked the forum, or even the error itself, you would know that the kernel module isn't compiled properly. Please run "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup" (without quotes) as root. If that fails, it means that you don't have the packages needed to create kernel modules. Please check my Howto: Install Linux Guest Additions + Xorg config, first section "Preparations", as the packages mentioned there are the same as the ones you need on the host for the kernel module.

Thank you for helping !!

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned I'm a Linux Newbie.

Also, when registering for this forum, I was asked for VBox version.
I have 2.2.4 r47978 - but the sign up page kind of forced me to choose "VBox Version: PUEL".
I don't even know what PUEL means, every other option seemed like the wrong answer.

Mandrake 2009.1 / KDE 4.2

I do know SU or SUDO means super user

SO....

Do I type EXACTLY This:

sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic

and

sudo yum install binutils gcc make patch libgomp glibc-headers glibc-devel kernel-headers kernel-devel

Please advise, thank you.

You use Mandriva, that uses a different package manager. Please consult their forum, or use google, for how to install the needed packages for kernel module development. Their website should have some kind of wiki system that has this information too.

As for the version you can select when registering this forum, if you downloaded the installer from the website here, you use the PUEL version. It's explained on the Editions page, accessible from the downloads page. All other versions are OSE ones, which you can either compile yourself from source, or get from your distribution's repository.

Here's what I did...

Configure Computer.
Install Remove ( repos ).
Search for ALL packages, should be a drop down selection.
search for " dkms " (without quotes).

That fixed the problem
