Problem using Windows Remote Desktop to Ubuntu client

Post by weconsultants »

I am trying to use remote desktop. My host is Windows XP SP3 and the client is Ubuntu 9.04. Problem is that when I try to connect to Ubuntu using windows remote desktop I get the following error:

"The client could not connect. You are already connected to the console of this computer. A new console session cannot be established".

This is what I did:

- Start the client in headless mode (VBoxHeadless -s "Ubuntu Desktop 9.04") The client starts up and tells me it is listening on port 3389. It does not seem to matter if I start it Headless or not. I still get the same error.
- Then startup a windows remote Desktop Connection with the following parameters: Computer: ComputerName:3389

Is there a problem with the port address. Do I need to change the port address for either the windows or Linux?

Thanks in Advance... :?

Well a couple of thing come into play here. What MODE are you using for your network connection? NAT, Bridged, Host-only?
Have you tried to connect to localhost:3389?

test with
VBoxHeadless -s machinename -p 3390

and connect to localhost:3390 instead.
Some say: "You learn as long as you live".
My way: "You live as long as you learn".

Thanks guys.. It is working now.

Changing the port address worked. For anyone else who finds this thread I set the network connection mode in NAT. As for Windows Remote Desktop I can use localhost or IP address which is what I wanted to use for users in another domain. I used port 3390 for the windows remote Desktop connection.

VBoxHeadless -s "Ubuntu Desktop 9.04" -p 3390

BTW - the only thing I see that is different, running on remote desktop, is that all sound has an echo to it.

Thanks.. :D
