VBoxService is trying to open Norton process token

Post by Vlatko »

On XP guest, VBoxService is trying to open process token of service ccSvcHst.exe that belongs to Norton Internet Security program. It does that every 5 secs, Norton block that attempt and writes a log in History. History is full of those entries. Every 5 secs one log entry.

The only solution I found, after talking with Norton support, is to turn Off the Tamper protection. But it is not the best solution because Norton is than open to attacks from someone else.

Anybody experienced similar issue? Why is VBoxService in guest trying continuously to open Norton process token? Is it possible to stop it in doing so?

I think you will find it is really the other way around. ccSvcHst.exe is probably scanning the pc all the time and sees things changed in the virtual environment. Try excluding the VirtualBox programs and folder from your virus software. I had several complaints with performance and other issues even corrupt files until I told my virus software to stop checking the virtual system files and folders. If you need a virus software running in/on the guest install it there. Your problems will more than likely go away and your performance will go up.

No, it is definitely the vboxservice trying to "scan/open" the Norton service. On one PC (not virtual) the same happens with HP software ASGHost.exe. But I managed to get asghost stuck/freeze, and the messages were gone. AV software is installed on both host and guest.
