USB Windows guest on Mandriva host

I have read a number of posts on getting usb devices to be seen (as active and NOT greyed out) on the Windows XP guest. I've tried all the devices, and the only USB device that is active is my mouse.
I've also tried all the advice from other forums - but they all relate to other host OS's. The info on the manual page does not seem to apply to Mandriva, because the files to edit do not exist on my os.
At present I am using a workaround for mass storage devices - I simply copy what I want Windows to see into a shared folder, which I have permanently set up in Virtualbox, with a mapped network drive. ]
I'm not too bothered by the others, but it would be nice if camera, ipod and calculator could be seen by Windows.
No one yet seems to have a fix, but when you do let me know.
