Hello all,
I have a USB serial port plugged into my computer (Running Debian Squeeze).
I first tried to pass through the whole device to my guest (Windows XP) however all the usb devices are grayed out. I have updated to the latest virtualbox but it still will not let me change them.
So I also tried just adding the serial port but the guest can not even see it. I have tried a disconnected one as well as trying one connected to the real port. It never shows up in device manager.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Serial port does not show up/USB devices gray
Well I found "VBoxManage list usbhost" which is very helpful. I did "modprobe -r ftdi_sio" to unload the driver for the usb to serial adapter on the host. Then I chowned the device root:vboxusers then chmodded it 664. After that I was able to connect in the usb device to the guest. Kinda a bit to go through for each device but it works. Any better ways?
Also its still annoying I can't make serial passthrough work.
