Bridged Networking Problem

Post by romanticwarrior »

Hi All,

I am having a problem using Bridged Networking in VirtualBox. When I configure a guest machine with an IP address in the same subnet as the host system I am unable to ssh from the host to the guest and vice versa. However, they can ping each other! :?

For info I also have all firewalls disabled, as is SELinux (and of course openssh is installed and running on both systems!).

I am using VritualBox 2.2.4 and have also tried versions 2.2.0 and 2.2.2. My host system is CentOS 5.3 x86_64. I have tried this with a few different guests, including CentOS 5.3, Archlinux, and Ubuntu. I also recently updated CentOS's packages, hoping a newer kernel would make a difference.

I run Ubuntu 9.04 (i386) at home with VirtualBox and I am able to run guest machines with bridged networking without any problems. I am wondering whether it could be an issue with 64bit hosts, difference in kernel versions, or Linux distro nuances that are at fault?

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? I have looked around the forums and haven't noticed anyone with this.

Many thanks.
